Completeness theorem for propositional probabilistic models whose measures have only finite ranges.Radosav Dordević, Miodrag Rašković & Zoran Ognjanović - 2004 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 43 (4):557-563.
A propositional logic is defined which in addition to propositional language contains a list of probabilistic operators of the form P ≥s (with the intended meaning ‘‘the probability is at least s’’). The axioms and rules syntactically determine that ranges of probabilities in the corresponding models are always finite. The completeness theorem is proved. It is shown that completeness cannot be generalized to arbitrary theories.

    Analytic completeness theorem for singular biprobability models.Radosav S. Đordević - 1993 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 39 (1):228-230.
The aim of the paper is to prove tha analytic completeness theorem for a logic LAs with two integral operators in the singular case. The case of absolute continuity was proved in [4]. MSC: 03B48, 03C70.

    (1 other version)Analytic completeness theorem for absolutely continuous biprobability models.Radosav S. Đorđević - 1992 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 38 (1):241-246.
Hoover [2] proved a completeness theorem for the logic L[MATHEMATICAL SCRIPT CAPITAL A]. The aim of this paper is to prove a similar completeness theorem with respect to product measurable biprobability models for a logic Lmath image with two integral operators. We prove: If T is a ∑1 definable theory on [MATHEMATICAL SCRIPT CAPITAL A] and consistent with the axioms of Lmath image, then there is an analytic absolutely continuous biprobability model in which every sentence in T is satified.

The Bodhisattva’s Practice of Enlightenment.Dale S. Wright - 2016 - In Dale Stuart Wright, What is Buddhist Enlightenment? Oxford University Press USA.
“The Bodhisattva’s Practice of Enlightenment” interprets a Los Angeles Times newspaper opinion piece by Thich Nhat Hanh as a contemporary image of enlightenment with far-reaching implications. Written in response to the brutal police beating of Rodney King and not intended for a Buddhist audience, this brief newspaper article nevertheless provides glimpses into the contemporary meaning of enlightenment. The chapter considers Thich Nhat Hanh’s comments in relation to the basic principles of Buddhist ethics before turning to the Vimalakīrti sūtra, a classical (...)

Dr. Toynbee is the author of A Study of History in ten volumes, on which he spent twenty-five years, and which has received very high praise from competent critics as well as much criticism. Of the present two books the first is based on the Gifford Lectures delivered in the University of Edinburgh in 1952–3, the second on the Hewett Lectures given in the United States in the Fall of 1955. As the two treat almost identical topics, the first more (...)

    Ricœur’s Ethical Poetics: Genesis and Elements.Mark S. Muldoon - 2005 - International Philosophical Quarterly 45 (1):61-86.
Despite his enormous bibliography of written works, Ricoeur has never devoted an entire tome to either moral philosophy or ethics per se. Three chapters of one work, Oneself as Another, do, however, encompass what he calls summarily his “little ethics.” To understand Ricoeur’s ethical project, it is important to see its genesis in his earlier anthropological studies and to follow its evolving nature into a hermeneutical poetics. Ricoeur’s ethical orientation is teleological. He makes a strong distinction between ethics and morality, (...)

Wisdom's Information: Rereading a Biblical Image in the Light of Some Contemporary Science and Speculation.Paul S. Nancarrow - 1997 - Zygon 32 (1):51-64.
The biblical image of Wisdom as the power who “orders all things well” in nature and in human life can be read in the light of contemporary information theory. Some current scientific speculation offers an interpretation of reality as a vast information‐processing system, in which informational situations are continuously transformed through algorithmic operations. This interpretation finds a metaphysical counterpart in the distinction between “nature natured” and “nature naturing” in the philosophical theology of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This confluence of religious, metaphysical, (...)

Harrison, Fictional Traces: Receptions of the Ancient Novel, Volume 1. Barkhuis Publishing & Groningen University Library. pp. 217-226.
Time and narratice technique compared. Two novelists, Heliodorus, 3rd century author of the novel Aethiopica and Sigrid Combüchen, contemporary Swedish novelist using a dystopian Europe around 2050 as a scenic setting. In both stories girls and women are captured and killed by soldiers. Both narrators are external to the story being told, presented in the past tense. But Combüchen´s narrator adopts it as a confession, and a turning point in his career as a commanding general, characterized by"double-bind".

    How Joseph De Maistre Read Plato’s Laws.Michael S. Kochin - 2002 - Polis 19 (1-2):29-43.
Maistre’s Soirées de Saint-Pétersbourg is modeled on Plato’s Laws. Plato and Maistre both demand the political control of natural inquiry, and implement these controls through theodictic conversation. Maistre, following the lead of Plato’s legislator, publishes an exemplary conversation about providence between a young man tempted by an atheistic Enlightenment and two older, wiser, and more learned men of affairs. Maistre defends providentialism from materialist interpretations of natural science even as Plato defended it from ancient materialism.

A.P. Martinich's interpretation that in Leviathan Thomas Hobbes believed that the laws of nature are the commands of God and that he did not rely on the Bible to prove this has been criticized by Greg Forster in this journal (2003). Forster uses these criticisms to develop his own view that Hobbes was insincere when he professed religious beliefs. We argue that Forster misrepresents Martinich's view, is mistaken about what evidence is relevant to interpreting whether Hobbes was sincere or not, (...)
